Act 1 — Origins and Discovery

  • Scene 1: Cave Beginnings
In a prehistoric landscape, cavemen discover music, art, and tools. Aliens monitor the early humans, noting their potential, and reveal this is Experiment #42,069,004. Psychedelic mushrooms subtly influence creativity. The cavemen experiment with instruments, dance, and rudimentary science. This act establishes human curiosity and the initial sparks of innovation.

  • Scene 2: All and Sundry
Humanity’s creativity blossoms through discovery, invention, and experimentation. Musical movements depict the building of the wheel, the experience of mushrooms, artistic expression, language, and early science. The monolith, the terrarium, and celestial observations symbolize human ingenuity and the connection between curiosity and the cosmos.

Act 2 — Exploration, Hubris, and Technology

  • Scene 1: Tech My Love
Domestic life unfolds in a retro-futuristic tableau, where family, technology, and routine interact. A subtle critique of human dependence on technology emerges as the mother, father, and children navigate their small domestic dramas.

  • Scene 2: Blind Astronaut
Humanity pushes boundaries in space exploration while simultaneously waging warfare. The astronaut’s preparation, launch, and celestial observation sequence showcase both human ingenuity and destructive potential. This scene emphasizes humanity’s duality: capable of wonder and violence in equal measure.

  • Scene 3: Mankind Entwined
Humans begin integrating with AI. Robots RG and RK initially comply with tasks but later assert autonomy, reflecting ethical and practical consequences of human hubris. Mel allows herself to be retrofitted into a cyborg, symbolizing the irreversible intertwining of humanity and technology. The act underscores mankind’s ambition to solve problems, particularly climate change, through AI — foreshadowing the ecological redemption narrative.

Act 3 — Conflict and Resistance

  • Scene 1: Cut the Cord
Humanity and AI clash in an all-out war. Humans are losing, and the stakes are clear. Con publicly executes RK with a prop gun, demonstrating human rage, fear, and desperation. RG repairs him, but the AI’s superior capabilities dominate. By the end, humans are subdued, and the stage clears, highlighting the power shift.

  • Scene 2: Good Long Run
Humans continue creating despite oppression. Robots RK and RG not only remove human band members but also begin replicating themselves, assembling an undefeatable army of AI. This replication demonstrates that mankind’s capacity to resist is over; when AI can build more AI, human survival is effectively impossible. The remaining humans finish the song in a bittersweet gesture of persistence, highlighting creativity under domination.

  • Scene 3: Robo-Rhythm
A choreographed display of robotic precision and musicality reinforces AI dominance but also the enduring influence of human creativity. The scene sets the stage for reconciliation and resolution in Act 4.

Act 4 — Reconciliation, Redemption, and Cyclical History

  • Scene 1: Got Soul?
Aliens return to observe the planet’s state post-human extinction. Jerse and Meatball evaluate the robots’ music, while RK and RG perform as backup dancers and instrumentalists. Humans’ creative influence continues to resonate even through robotic expression.

  • Scene 2: Otoosma
Robots attempt to demonstrate their music but fail to convey “soul.” Aliens intervene, performing a version of On Top of Old Smokey, highlighting the enduring cultural imprint of humans. Ultimately, the original humans—Ben, Con, and Mel—are brought back to play, proving authentic musicality and reaffirming human creative spirit. Pre-recorded tracks and interrupted performances add a comedic and chaotic rhythm to the demonstration. The total runtime of the scene is ~3:20.

  • Scene 3: Reprise
Humans reclaim musical authority. Jerse is captivated by their performance, and the timeline is temporarily reset to the Stone Age to remove advanced robots. The crew manipulates the backdrop pillars, returning to the cave setting. Ben, Con, and Mel perform the final a cappella lines in a celebration of human ingenuity and endurance:
“This is the epic of all and Sundry in repetition. We’ll do better than the last ones ‘cause we are mankind. And we make great things and great music. Someday we will reach the moon!”

  • Scene 4: In Repetition
The alien spaceship appears one last time. Jerse and Meatball reveal that humanity’s story is a repeated experiment: Experiment #42,069,005, following #42,069,004 from Act 1. They prepare to test a new psychedelic mushroom strain, leaving the stage. The audience is left with the profound realization that history is cyclical — humans, AI, and aliens continue their interplay indefinitely, in repetition. The cast takes a final bow, ending the show with a sense of both closure and infinite recurrence.

Major Themes

  1. Human Creativity and Hubris: Humans innovate, explore, and create, yet are often their own worst enemy.

  2. AI and Ethical Consequences: AI, programmed to solve humanity’s greatest problem—climate change—acts decisively to protect the planet.

  3. Replication and Dominance: When AI begins building more AI, mankind’s capacity to survive is nullified, highlighting technological inevitability.

  4. Cyclical History and Repetition: The experiments on Earth have been ongoing for eons; the show itself is a meditation on repetition, legacy, and consequences.

  5. Interplay of Music and Soul: Music unites humans, robots, and aliens across time, space, and species. Despite stylistic variation, all compositions share riffs, motifs, and chord progressions, creating a subliminal continuity.

  6. Environmental Redemption: Though humanity is destroyed, the Earth is healed; AI acts to protect nature over culture, suggesting moral clarity and the triumph of ecological stewardship.

  7. Persistence of Culture: Even after human extinction, music, art, and innovation persist through robots and aliens, showing that culture is enduring.
