Properly Aligned Strike Plates
I know I talk a lot about strike plates! But that's because they are almost always the cause for locks not working good, and the weakest link in forceful break-ins. But here's one last quick paragraph:
I know you know the feeling of a deadbolt that is difficult to lock and unlock. It's because the latch bolt is rubbing really hard on the strike plate. This is not good for your locks and if you keep forcing it like that, you're gonna need a new lock soon. Like I said on the strike plate adjustment page, doors should latch tight against the weather stripping and the deadbolts should freely go in and out of the latch hole with no contact with any wood or the strike plate. If it's not like that right now, you should give me a call!
